It’s been an incredible week for Rest of World — we won two awards from the Society of Publishers in Asia on Thursday.

Our project The Global Gig Workers was awarded Excellence in Regional Technology Reporting. This project, helmed by Peter Guest, combined personal case studies with a massive trove of data to show how platform work is reshaping entire economies, sectors, lifestyles, and livelihoods.

We were also awarded Excellence in Regional Business Reporting for two stories examining Asia’s supply chain: an investigation into how Shein conquered fast fashion, and a report on how Samsung and other companies in Vietnam kept factories open during the pandemic by forcing workers to live on site. The judges called the stories “fascinating and detailed,” speaking to the incredible work done by reporters Meaghan Tobin, Louise Matsakis, Wency Chen, Lam Le, and our Asia Editor, Sarah Hilton .

We’re thrilled that an organization as young as ours is being recognized by SOPA. Other winners included outlets like Bloomberg, CNN, Reuters, and the Wall Street Journal. We’re proud of the work we do here, and thankful to you for reading it.
