Angelica Salgado is the president of the workers’ union for Cornershop, a Chilean unicorn grocery delivery app fully acquired by Uber in July 2021. As leader of one of the few last-mile delivery workers’ unions in the gig economy, Salgado fought against a proposed government bill that would allow gig work platforms in Chile to continue to rely on independent workers. Having been unemployed for two years, Salgado began working for Cornershop back when it was famous for formally employing its workers. However, the startup ended the practice after Uber bought a majority stake in 2019.
