Arghya Sengupta specializes in digital regulation and has played a consequential role in overhauling India’s technology policy through Vidhi, the influential private policy think tank he founded. Sengupta has served on a number of government councils, including an expert committee on India’s data protection bill. Vidhi has consulted the government on Aadhaar, the controversial national biometrics-based identity program and the country’s contact-tracing application Aarogya Setu. Prior to founding Vidhi, Sengupta was a lecturer of administrative law at Oxford’s Pembroke College.
