Erich García Cruz’s motivation to found the fintech QvaPay (pronounced Cuba Pay) was born out of personal necessity. As a Cuban living under the U.S. economic embargo, he had no access to banking or digital payment tools and was blocked by fintech companies whenever he tried to use their services. In 2019, he created QvaPay, a company that sends remittance payments using bitcoin. The developer has been dubbed “Cuba’s crypto ambassador” and has his own tech YouTube channel — with over 87,000 subscribers — in which he reviews gadgets, gives tutorials, and informs viewers about tech news from across the globe.
