VNG is often referred to as Vietnam’s only super app and the father of one of its most crucial products, messenger app Zalo. Under Le’s tenure, VNG Corp., Vietnam’s first unicorn, has sped toward expansion into cloud computing, gaming, digital payments, online learning, and music. Zalo itself has 39 features and functions, including ZaloPay, Zing Music, Zing News, and Tiki e-commerce. In 2020, Zalo AI introduced a digital assistant, Kiki, to its app — similar to Alexa and Siri but in Vietnamese and catering uniquely to the country’s dialects. For Vietnam watchers, it’s considered a unique case of a hyperlocal solution working.
