Born and raised in Guatemala, Luis von Ahn is the CEO of the world’s most-downloaded education app, Duolingo, which he co-founded in 2011 and which now offers more than 100 courses across 40 different languages. An obsession with building systems that combine computers and humans saw von Ahn begin his career by founding reCAPTCHA, an open-source tech security service for websites that Google acquired in 2009. After going public last year following a pandemic-related boom, Duolingo is now valued at almost $5 billion and boasts 40 million monthly active users.
