After spending the majority of her career rallying to raise funds for startups, Mexico City–based Marcela Torres is now trying her hand at a different challenge outside of her comfort zone — providing them. She’s doing this on behalf of Joystick Ventures, a VC fund for indie video game developers. Torres, one of the few women in her chosen sector, is reveling in her current role, which involves working with creators and figuring out strategies for positioning and community building. Torres came to prominence in social entrepreneurship as the former CEO and co-founder of Holacode, a Mexican social enterprise that teaches software development to refugees and migrants returning to Mexico after living in the U.S.
