Digital Infrastructure

No industry has borne the brunt of Beijing’s recent push for total technological independence from U.S. supply chains like the semiconductor industry. Simon Yang helms Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC), which is leading the charge of Chinese companies working to change the balance of power in the sector. In order to achieve that goal, YMTC became known for a notoriously strict audit of its supply chain, tracking suppliers down to the nuts and bolts and screws. Although YMTC can’t yet compete with giants like Samsung, under Yang’s leadership, the company’s capacity has grown to the point that it’s reportedly in the running to supply advanced flash memory chips to Apple for use in iPhones.
