E-commerce
VicenteZavarce
When Vicente Zavarce set out to found Yummy, an e-commerce super app for Latin America, he was up against myriad obstacles, including the region’s powerhouse super app, Rappi. The biggest challenge of all, however, was where he started his company — Venezuela, a country suffering economic instability with a nonexistent e-commerce landscape. Still, after working as the director of user acquisition at Postmates in San Francisco, he wanted to bring a similar delivery app model to his home country. Despite the barriers, the Y Combinator–backed Yummy has become a dynamo in its own right, expanding across Latin America, acquiring the Bolivian logistics outfit Yaigo in late 2021 to continue its regional growth. Zavarce attributes the app’s success to experimenting in Venezuela and using the country as a launching pad to become a major player in other markets.
